Weekend Show, 27th March 2004
Once again a
BIG Thank You
to everyone who took part - the initial listening to the audio recording confirms what I thought on the day - the combination of the soloists, chorus, and orchestra sounded absolutely superb. The recording is now available on CD. You can hear a sample of Hail Poetry here. Keep an eye out for details for next year...
The next production by the WPG&S Society will be a concert version of The Pirates of Penzance. The concert will take place in St. Paul's Church, Leicester Street, Leamington Spa on Saturday 27th March 2004 at 7:30pm. Rehearsals for the show will take place on Friday 26th March, 7.30pm-10pm, and all day on the 27th March. Everyone who has been involved in a University of Warwick Gilbert & Sullivan Society show, or a Music Theatre Warwick Show is welcome to take part. In addition, members of the Warwick Phoenix Singers are invited to take part - if having to learn movements as well as music has put you off being in a show before, come and join in and enjoy the music!
Format
This year, as the performance will be "in concert", we have even less rehearsal time. We will therefore not be performing from memory; all chorus members will have scores. Principals will be encouraged to perform from memory if possible. All dialogue will be included in the concert.
Orchestra
Please contact me if you would like to play in the orchestra for the show, particularly if you are a string player. We will rehearse on the Saturday only, between 2pm and 5pm, followed by the show in the evening. You are welcome to attend the sing through on the Friday evening. The orchestra for the show will consist of:
- 2 Flutes
- 1 Oboe
- 2 Clarinets
- 1 Bassoon
- 2 Trumpets
- 2 French Horns
- 2 Trombones
- 2 Percussion (Drum, Cymbals, Timpani, Triangle, etc)
- Violin I
- Violin II
- Viola
- Cello
- Double Bass

Strings
The woodwind, brass and percussion sections will be as listed, but I'd like as many string players as we can muster.
Auditions
The general company will not be auditioned.
